Bulls snagging coach from Bucks

Adrian Griffin has been working as an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks but the Journal Times is reporting that hes moving on up to take the bench coach job under Tom Thibodeau with the Chicago Bulls.
The 36-year-old played pro ball for 12 years, taking the ball for the Long Island Surf, Connecticut Pride, Atlantic City Seagulls, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Seattle SuperSonics, and the Bulls, where he played from 2004-2005 and 2006-2008.

Hell be the youngest bench coach in the NBA.

"I am very fortunate, Griffin told the Journal Times. "I was just a player two years ago and now Im a coach. Its very competitive to make an NBA team as a player, but its even more competitive to become an NBA coach. There are only a few of them (usually five) on each team.

Follow Yahoo! Thats all I ask for."

He is currently finishing out a two-year, $20 million deal.

The team likely would like to keep him around.
Steelers’ Leftwich not guaranteed start upon return

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Byron Leftwich was brought in to fill the slot emptied by Ben Roethlisberger when he was suspended by the league for some unpleasant off-field conduct. Then Leftwich got hurt and the inexperienced Dennis Dixon will get the team started this weekend.
But even when Leftwich returns from his knee sprain, the Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports that he isnt guaranteed to take the spot from Dixon.

"(Injuries) are unfortunate, but they also provide opportunities for others," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. "What others do with the opportunities oftentimes determine what happens going forward."

In other words, if Dixon cashes in some of that potential hes got into actual positive play, he may get to start for all four games that Roethlisberger is out of action.

Follow Yahoo!
Haynesworth returning to Titans?

Things havent exactly gone well between the Washington Redskins and defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth this offseason and the Tennessean reports that the folks in D.C. are talking to execs at the Tennessee Titans about a possible trade that would send Haynesworth back to the team where he spent his first seven seasons.
Of course, as the paper notes, the Redskins would like a decent draft pick in the deal and the Titans dont want to give up a whole lot for the former All-Pro.

"The Titans and Redskins initially discussed a Haynesworth trade in April during the NFL Draft, with the Titans offering a fourth-round pick," the paper reports.
Phillies’ Lidge out till Friday?

Plenty of Philadelphia Phillies fans likely heaved a sigh of relief last night when, according to MLB.com, Manager Charlie Manuel told reporters that closer Brad Lidge wasnt going to be on the mound till at least Friday because of a sore elbow.
Lidge, who has 21 saves and five blown ones this year, has made his outings interesting this year, regularly letting runners on base. Many Phillies fans have called for his ouster and hes reminded plenty of former Phillies closer Mitch Williams, who was also known as Wild Thing and famously blew Game Six of the 1993 World Series, letting Joe Carter hammer a Series winning homer for the Toronto Blue Jays. Williams was so known for his wildness that former teammate Curt Schilling inadvertantly started a fad during that postseason that had a stadium full of people putting towels over their heads when Williams took the mound.

Of course, whatever relief Phillies fans may have felt that Lidge is briefly on the shelf quickly evaporated since setup man Ryan Madson blew his opportunity at a save last night (and has four other blown saves this year) but went on to win the game in the ninth, putting the Phils in first place in the National League East.

Follow Yahoo!
Marlins’ Josh Johnson done for season?

The Florida Marlins slim chance at winning the wild card just got a lot slimmer. The team is 8.5 games back the new wild-card leader, the Atlanta Braves, who fell a half game behind the Philadelphia Phillies. And the news now is that the 11-6 Josh Johnson is getting pulled from his next start, according to the Miami Herald.
Johnson will go back from the teams road trip early in order to have his throwing shoulder and back looked at by the doc. "Were more concerned with his back than his shoulder," said Marlins interim manager Edwin Rodriguez to the Herald. "Hes going to miss the start on Friday. Then we will decide if hell be able to pitch next week or not."

The Herald proposes that Johnson, who has 186 strikeouts in 183.2 innings pitched this year and a 2.30 ERA, may be done for the season.

Follow Yahoo!
Patriots QB Brady nearing contract extension?

That $58 million contract extension for Tom Brady that the Boston Herald reported yesterday is "gaining momentum", according to ESPN.
The Herald reported that the extension offer from the New England Patriots to its franchise quarterback who has won three Super Bowls is for three years. That would start after this season, which pays Brady $6.5 million.

The Herald said yesterday that the deal could be done within 24 hours. ESPN reports that the extension could be worth between $18 millionand $20 million annually and that Brady would like to get the deal donethis week before the Patriots season kicks off on Monday.

One source told the Herald that Brady would not accept any deal that had him making less annually than the Indianapolis Colts Peyton Manning, who makes $16.4 million per year. Manning is also in the final year of his contract and his next one should be a doozy, too, since, as the Sporting News points out, Colts owner Jim Irsay has said that "his goal is to make Manning the highest paid player with the new contract."
Follow Yahoo!
