Tigers join battle for Rockies Jimenez
The Detroit Tigers have joined the pack of suitors for Colorado Rockies ace Ubaldo Jimenez(notes), according to FOX Sports.
Jimenez doesnt have a clue where hell be after Sunday afternoons trade deadline passes. "I dont know whats going to happen," Jimenez said, according to the Denver Post. "Its out of my control. All I can focus on is doing my job to the best of my ability."
The Tigers are also talking to the Washington Nationals about what it would take to get Jason Marquis(notes) as well as the Los Angeles Dodgers about Hiroki Kuroda(notes), FOX reports. The site has it that the folks in Denver have four other teams interested in Jimenez: the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds, and Cleveland Indians.
The Rocks are setting the price high since the team knows it has no real need to get rid of Jimenez, FOX notes. The Post reports that the Yankees arent planning to offer too much because the team is concerned that Jimenez wont have an immediate impact this season and may have a minor injury, which Jimenez denies. "The Yankees, as a result, are closely eyeing Seattles Erik Bedard(notes) and the Dodgers Hiroki Kuroda," the Post notes.

Padres closer Bell plans return to San Diego?
Heath Bell(notes) has saved 30 games for the San Diego Padres this season and 121 of ‘em for the team since he came onboard in 2007, but he seems to think hell be taking his glove somewhere else before Sundays trading deadline passes.
"Its going to happen," Bell said Thursday of being traded, according to CBSSports.com. "It will probably be down to the wire."
But dont despair, Padres fans. Bell has apparently enjoyed his time in San Diego so much that he not only can see himself signing with the Padres in the offseason but doing so at a discount: "Honestly, with everything thats happened, I wouldnt rule out anything," Bell said, CBS reports. "I said Id take a discount, and I want to stay here. Everyone knows that."
Yahoo! Sports Tim Brown notes that the Texas Rangers "interest (in Bell) seemed to draw ever more connected Wednesday night, when Rangers manager Ron Washington questioned existing closer Neftali Felizs(notes) ‘fire."

Phillies and Astros progressing toward Pence trade
It appeared that the Philadelphia Phillies were done haggling for Hunter Pence(notes) of the Houston Astros after the folks in Texas supposedly said no to an offer of Class A right-hander Jarred Cosart and first baseman Jonathan Singleton along with a third piece.
But now FOX Sports reports that the Phils and Astros "are making progress" on a Pence trade. However, a source tells the site that if the trade cant be agreed up on Friday, the Astros will move on to the other suitors for Pence, including the Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, and Boston Red Sox.
Whats supposedly holding things up is the ID of that third piece (and possibly a fourth), according to FOX Sports, but one thing Phillies fans dont have to worry about is that young outfielder Domonic Brown(notes) is not a name being discussed.
However, Yahoo! Sports Tim Brown points out that "the sense outside the organization is that Pence will not be traded" and that "the consensus in the clubhouse, according to one player, is that Pence will not be dealt." However, Brown notes that pitcher Wandy Rodriguez(notes) and infielder Clint Barmes(notes) are believed to be headed elsewhere before Sundays deadline.

Carlos Quentin expected to be dealt
It very recently wasnt clear if the Chicago White Sox had any interest in trading outfielder Carlos Quentin(notes) but now the New York Post has it that it is expected that the Sox will send the 28-year-old packing before Sunday afternoons non-waiver trade deadline.
The Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies are the two teams in contention for the services of the two-time All-Star and 2008 Silver Slugger winner, CBSSports.com reports. This year, Quentin is hitting .262 with 20 homers and 62 RBIs.
CSN Chicago notes that Quentin is thought to be the Phillies second choice for a slugger to stick in right field with Hunter Pence(notes) of the Houston Astros being the preferred plan.
The White Sox remain only three games back in the American League Central.

Yankees and Red Sox scout As Harden
The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are both interested in adding a starting pitcher before Sunday afternoons non-waiver trading deadline hits. Generally, people are thinking theyre trying to land Hiroki Kuroda(notes) of the Los Angeles Dodgers or Ubaldo Jimenez(notes) of the Colorado Rockies, but if they dont work out, one of them could end up landing Rich Harden(notes) of the Oakland Athletics.
Harden, who has spent a good chunk of the season on the disabled list, has only started five games this season and has a 2-1 record with a 4.30 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 29 1/3 innings pitched. That didnt stop the Yankees and Red Sox from sending scouts to watch him Thursday night as he took on the Tampa Bay Rays.
The 29-year-old native of Canada allowed only three hits and two runs over six innings.
